Geography in Subic Bay - Philippines

Subic Bay, specifically the Freeport, is flanked on the east side by the mountains of Zambales and on the western end it is surrounded by the bay and the South China Sea. It is on the southwest portion of the Luzon group of islands in Region III (Central Luzon). If you are in Metro Manila, it will be some 110 kilometers (70 miles) away.

The mountain ranges that cover its eastern side are not just scenic wonders but their placement has made the entire area safe from the onslaught of the typhoons, making the weather agreeable almost all throughout the year. This also proved very helpful as it shielded the place from the worst effects of the Pinatubo eruption in 1991.

The waters on the western end, needless to say, have helped its economy greatly, both in terms of being a gateway for the transportation of goods to being a favorite destination for swimmers and divers, which is why this part of the geography of Subic is well protected.

Although Subic is now urbanized, there are still areas there that have retained their natural appearance or have been preserved, making them top tourist attractions and destinations. Aside from beaches like Skipper, Christina and Dungaree, the other famous natural hotspots are the wreck sites of Subic Bay, most notably El Capitan, the Oryoku Maru and the San Quentin. Visits to these locations not only give one the chance to see the waters but also the way nature has sculpted the land.

On the ground several rainforests have been well preserved as well, and going to such places as the Bat Kingdom and the Zoobic Safari shows just how much of the natural beauty of the land has been well kept and preserved.
