The Camayan Reef in Subic Bay - Philippines

Although it is primarily known as a haven for ship wreck enthusiasts, the Camayan Reef Subic dive site is one that showcases some of the finest natural wonders in its sea. Although not as well known as the wreck locations, they are actually some of the most attractive sites in and around Subic.

As you dive around you will be greeted by the sight of several types of corals, of different types and colors. The place is also filled with various kinds of fish. Among them are the groper, pipefish, parrotfish, lionfish, and also some angelfish, which can also be seen in the area.

There are also several clams, shrimps, crustaceans and other assorted types of creatures like sponges, nudibranches, seahorses, rays and more. One of the things that also make the Camayan Reef Subic dive site very attractive is the smoothness of the currents. This makes it easy for those who are still apprehensive about diving to learn the steps easily and give them confidence.

There are actually several reefs situated by its side, so you can easily spend a lot of time going through each one. Even better is that when you stay at one of the resorts there, you are only a few minutes away from the other dive and wreck sites in the area. The famous wreck sites like the El Capitan, the LST and the Oryoku Maru are all less than half an hour away from the site. What this means is that you will be able to go through the various diving destinations without too much trouble or difficulty.

The Camayan Reef Subic dive site is located very near the islands of Grande and Chiqueta. Similar to Canyon Reefs, some areas here are less than 20 meters deep, making it ideal for new divers. If this is your first time to go snorkeling, this is one of the best places to start learning.

When you stay at the hotel a dive is usually included, with the total costs starting at $200. Those who want to learn the other concepts can do so at one of the many dive centers in Subic (costs begin at $100 with advanced courses naturally costing more).

One of the best things about swimming at the Camayan Reef Subic dive site is that all the other sites are very near it so anytime you want to take a look at the various wrecks, you can do so, making your trip all the more enjoyable.
