Philippine Visa Facts for Foreign Tourists

Depending on your nationality and the length of your intended stay, you may need a visa to enter the Philippines. Here is how you get a Philippine tourist visa and the associated rules.

Is a visa always required to visit the Philippines as a tourist?

No. For citizens of most countries, it is permissible to enter the Philippines without a visa for a stay of not exceeding 21 days. However your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the country. You will also need to show a ticket to your point of origin or next destination.

What if I want to stay longer than 21 days?

If you entered the Philippines on a visa-exempt 21-day stamp and you wish to extend it, you can get a visa waiver for 38 days. Your total possible stay then would be 21 + 38 = 59 days. To obtain a visa waiver, visit the Bureau of Immigration office in Manila or nearest regional office with the following documents:

Passport valid for at least 6 months

One 2x2 photograph of the applicant

Proof of travel funds

Photocopy of onward journey ticket or proof of itinerary

Dully accomplished application form ((BI Form No. MCL-07)

If the application is to be made by proxy, the form must be notarized.

How often can I extend my stay in the Philippines?

You may extend your stay for 60 days at a time up to 16 months. Ask the Bureau of Immigration office for the application fee.

Are there exceptions to the standard Philippine visa requirements?

Yes. If you own a Brazilian or Israeli passport, you may enter without a visa for up to 59 days.

On the other hand, if you own a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport, a British National Overseas passport, a Macau Special Administrative Region passport, or if you have a Portuguese passport that was issued in Macau; you may stay without a visa for only 7 days.

You can apply for a tourist visa at the Philippine embassy or consulate in your country.
